We have been privileged to work with Peter Phillips and his excellent team at TPL to deliver the Creative Direction and Production Design for the Patron’s Lunch.
This event, never before seen, gathered 10,000 Patrons on the Mall, in London, for a picnic and parade. The aim was to highlight the work that the Patron’s Organisations do, as well as provide a moment to recognise and thank Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth for her incredible support and dedication.
Amongst many beautiful objects, we designed a representation of the Royal Yacht Britannia, a giant kestrel and a replica of a handbag associated with the wonderful lady herself. Out of the handbag came a beautiful cloth reveal, with a Thank You message on it, pulled by Darcey Bussell and 44 dancers from the Royal Academy of Dance. Two giant child puppets followed the parade, and it also included some panto animals on bikes…. but of course. We wrote the odd script, devised the parade content, and are proud to say that we helped out where we could!
The show was aired live on BBC1 and received great viewing figures. See a little snippet here with Ala on the BBC News Website
In 3 months, from first brief to delivery, set, costumes, props and art direction was designed and overseen right through to dressing on the day. We had the best time, and met some wonderful people along the way. We had close and lovely collaboration with Lynn Wallis Artistic Director of the Royal Academy of Dance, Jo Mackay, and Musical Director, Graham Jones MBE. Darcey Bussell was incredibly generous with her time and sense of fun in creating the finale sequence. There are far too many people to name-check here, but thank you to all who were involved, and gave their time above and beyond the call of duty at times!
Here is some more news about the day.
